13th Fix

[Today in class, Mr Hatch will be writing "VOTE FOR PROM QUEEN AND KING HERE" on the chalk board. There's a ballot box on his desk and some slips of papers. He's hung a sign or two in the hallways of the high school too advertising this, but don't expect Quinn to put *too* much work into this. Feel free to ask him questions, bother him, whatever!

At home, he'll set up the same ballot box outside his garage too. Then he'll make a phone call to the town, filtered from the usual NPCs:]

I figure, since we're havin' a prom, might as well have a contest for King & Queen, right? So I set up a ballot box in my calculus classroom, an' at my garage at 339 Brady Lane. Just drop a name in there, anyone ya want! I'll count 'em up, and then the winners'll be announced at the dance. Whattaya's think?

We still don't have a theme for the prom... Any ideas? Do we even need one?

So what else's been goin' on in town? How's everyone doin'? Seems like everythin' is back to normal after that April Fool's stuff... Well, as normal as this town ever gets. Oh yeah! I forgot to ask, anyone in town got a TV from home? A big one? I got my laptop and a bunch of DVDs from home. I'd love to have a movie night sometime.

[As usual, the garage of 339 Brady is wide open, and Quinn is inside. But instead of blaring the usual bass-thumping music, it's a movie! Actually a whole lot of movies today, since recently returned to him in the mail was his DVD collection of action movies! Good, bad, and everything in between, Quinn has them back and couldn't be happier.

Already returned to Quinn was his laptop and speakers, so he has those set up to be a mini theater. He's got out a several lawn chairs and a cooler of beer (with a couple of sodas too). Currently being shown is one of the worst movies of all time, but of course is one of Quinn's favorites. He's seen it a hundred times and is still laughing his ass off.

What do you say, Mayfield? Care to join?]

[Phone: filtered from NPCs:]

Hey, guys! Just wanted to let ya'll know that the forge in my yard has been ready to go. It ain't much, but it does the trick. Not too bad for a guy who's never even seen one outside of a Renaissance Fair if I do say so myself! Thing is, I've never built anythin' like swords or whatever before. Computers and electronics are more my thing. So's there anyone out there who does? I collected some scrap metal from cars and such around here to use. Be glad we're in the 50s, when cars were actually still made outta metal. We can start meltin' 'em down and stuff, but I dunno what to make the hilts or whatever out of, or... well, anythin' else about aswords. I hate to say it, but I'm a little stumped on where to go from here.

[Action:
Quinn's been in a great mood ever since he got the courage to open up his latest regain. It's one of his favorite guilty pleasures, mostly because through his technomancy, iPads are fun to talk to. He can be found walking around town with it, sitting with it at the diner, or in the high school faculty break room... however, he doesn't even need to touch it to have it do anything. Apps and images zoom by without him needing to move a muscle, thanks to his ability. He looks positively tickled to have this thing back. And he's so absorbed in it, he might not hear you talking to him at first, or he might walk right into you. It's a good thing he's so tall, so you can see him coming...]

[Phone: Call filtered from drones/NPCs:]

Mornin', everyone! Seems like we got our latest flock of new people floodin' in. First, my apologies ya gotta be stuck in this place. Second, I can fill ya in on some of the details if no one hasn't yet. Third, and this one's for everyone, I'm hostin' a party this Saturday night at my place! It's for Valentine's Day, but it's also a good time for all the newbies to have a meet 'n' greet. Get to know your neighbors. All ages, too!

My name's Quinn, and I'm at 339 Brady. Party starts at 8, and there's gonna be live music so get ready to dance! Oh yeah, it's BYOB too, but we should hopefully have enough for everyone. No dress code either. Wear whatever ya like!

---

[Action: In Quinn's homeroom class a few days ago, he was instructed by school administration to hand out some career surveys to the class. He turned them all in once the kids gave them back, only to have them returned by the admins a few days later, assigning everyone generic Mayfield jobs like mechanic or teacher; most of the girls even got "housewife".

He looks them over while at his desk, frowning at them, before balling them all up and tossing them into the trash.]

Well that was a waste of time. Sorry, guys. How about ya tell me what it is ya wanna do for a living once ya get outta here? Or that ya do already, since half of ya'll ain't kids anyway. I know none of us wanna be Mayfield drones the rest of our lives!

[Phone call! Filtered from drones:]

Sup, everybody! Ya know, Valentine's Day's comin' up on us. And while I know Mayfield probably has some sorta fun-ruining thing in mind for us, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate anyway! So I plan on havin' a party here at my place on Brady Lane. Featuring yours truly as DJ, and my bro Scotty with his band with a live performance! 'S a matter of fact, I think he's still holdin' auditions for that. Ya'll can be ready by February fourteenth, right?

Oh, and don't worry if ya don't have a date. This is for everyone! Maybe you'll meet someone there. Speakin' of, ~ladies and gents~, I wouldn't mind havin' a date myself, if anyone's interested! [He laughs.]

If ya'll have any ideas for this party, let me know. Let's make this one for the record books!

--

[Action! In school!

Quinn gets sick of teaching high school calculus all too often, and is way more interested in his students than teaching. After all, you're people who come from all over time and space! And on occasion, video games, movies, books... Who needs math when he can talk to you about where you're from?]

So, class! We just had Christmas, New Year's and now Valentine's Day is around the bend. Ya'll have these holidays where you're from? How do ya celebrate 'em? Or do ya have other holiday entirely? Tell me about 'em!

6th Fix

[Today was a good day for Mr. Quinn Hatch. Not only was his technomancy waiting for him under the tree this morning, but there was a package on the porch for him as well. It contained a totally bitchin' turntable set inside! Quinn is positively giddy with these, and as a result today you'll find him:

A) In the garage, rocking the neighborhood out. He had his music laptop returned to him last time, and he has it hooked up to his turntable. He's gotten some vinyls from the record store too. So you'll be hearing all different kinds of music coming from his house today. He's having an absolute blast in there.

B) In the different stores, and around his house and the town, talking to various appliances and machinery. Yes, talking. Quinn can communicate with them with his powers, and now that he has them back, he has some catching up to do. He's cheerfully chatting up toasters, cars, lampposts, his computer, anything. Yes, he knows how strange this looks, but he also doesn't give a damn.]

5th Fix

technohippie: (leave it to me)
[The phone picks up, but there's a few moments of shuffling and the moving of things as Quinn drags the phone to the garage. Sadly no one has told him he can filter his calls.]

Hey guys! It's come to my attention that some folks 'round here like usin' swords. While I ain't the fightin' type, I can tell why ya'd want somethin' like that around, 'specially if ya ain't used to guns or whatever.

So, I've decided that I'm gonna build somethin' like a forge! I figure, the only thing we got in Mayfield in the way of scrap metal is cars, right? So, we've got access to a lot of steel and chrome and such. We can probably make some lightweight, tough swords for ya'll! Like katanas, I guess.

Here's where ya'll come in. While I can build a whole lotta stuff, swords are new to me. I'm lookin' for someone who knows stuff like how to design 'em. Get the weight and size right, stuff I can use for the hilts, things like that! Computers are my specialty really, but I do pretty good buildin' other stuff too. So if you're interested, ya can call me back, but it's probably better if ya just come over to the garage at 339 Brady Lane, cuz that's where I'll be. If ya got any spare metal or whatever, bring that along. I'm not expecting payment, but some company, some supplies or maybe even some snacks or somethin' would be great! Thanks, guys.

[If you stop by, Quinn will be merrily dismantling parts in his garage, his laptop set up and playing music like usual - but at an acceptable volume level this time.]

[Quinn Hatch is, by nature, a people person. A party person. Mayfield is way too quiet and boring for his tastes, not to mention that he's a bit lonely and homesick. Working as a teacher has kept him busier than he thought it would, and the daily grind tough on him. Today though, he's calling out to chillax! You may find him:

1. Working in his garage on Brady Lane. From within, his regained laptop and stereo system are set up and are positively BLARING music at a drone-unacceptable level. He looks quite content though, working on something in there with some newly-acquired tools. The music is all different kinds - rock, metal, dance, rap, Quinn listens to it all. Come rock out/find out what he's doing/complain?

2. Later in the evening at the tavern. He doesn't want to drink alone, and you look like a good-looking friendly stranger! Look out, because he's sitting down next to you. If you're nice enough he might even buy you a drink.

3. Later that evening, stealing car parts. That might be your car he's harvesting. Whoops! He was meaning to get drones' cars, but who can tell in the dark, or after you've had a few too many. Double-whoops. But as far as he knows, it's the best and really only way to collect what he needs to build things.

3rd Fix

technohippie: (but but!)
[Quinn's still trying to get used to a "normal" day-to-day life in Mayfield... and just can't. This wholesome 1950s living is about the exact opposite of what he's used to. He's getting a bit stir-crazy. And now it's Halloween! His favorite holiday! Someone's got to be doing something, he hoped...]

H-Hey! Uh, I know I'm new and all here, and things were just kinda, shall we say, "hectic" in town, but don't tell me none of ya'll are havin' a Halloween party? Someone is, right? Talk about a waste... we should be partyin' it up. Time to kick back and have some fun after all that, ya know?

[Not exactly sure what to do with himself, Quinn will be sitting on his front porch handing out candy. He'll be dressed in an angel costume, because he thought it was kind of funny. He looks a bit mopey though. He doesn't remember the last time he's had a Halloween this lame, and he was starting to miss his family back home.]

2nd Fix

[Quinn was warned he might be given a job here, and lo and behold, he was. But apparently he was a teacher, something he knew nothing about. Sure, calculus he could do, but teaching? High schoolers? Well, it couldn't be so hard, he thought.

However, your dear new teacher is just a bit distracted. He was still getting used to life in the 1950s with a fake family, and without his technomancy. Trying to adjust to a "normal" life. No, this wasn't normal, this was weird!

Into your classroom walks an incredibly tall and skinny man, making an attempt to look professional. But his shirt's untucked and his tie is loose, and he's wearing sunglasses.]

Ah. Hey guys. I'm, ah, Mr. Hatch. I mean Quinn. Forget that "Mister" stuff. Sooooo. Whatcha know about calculus then? Ya know what? Screw calculus, for today at least. Not like I figured out this lesson plan yet... Obviously I'm new here, but from what I'm told, you guys come from all over the universe. Universes? Whatever. So, where ya'll from? What's it like there? What do you do there? It's gotta be more interestin' than this place!

[He'll go around the classes and expect answers out of everyone!

Also throughout the day, Quinn will be introducing himself to his fellow teachers. Can he say hi to you?]

1st Fix

technohippie: (huh?)
[Well, waking up in a strange bed, in a strange house, with a strange woman was, admittedly, not too rare in Quinn's life. It was waking up in a 1950s style house that was full of portraits including him and 3 smiling strangers that was the odd part. Or the fact that when he goes downstairs to inspect the house that he find his technomancy abilities are... gone? Blocked? Ok Hatch, don't panic. Do not panic.

It's very early, not long after dawn, and there is a very tall man standing in his pajamas and robes in the cold fall morning air, holding a cup of coffee. He's looking around the street, that his last name is on that mailbox, at the old (but new?) car in the driveway. A stranger passes by and bids him "Good morning, Mr. Hatch!" Quinn just blinks at him, but raises his coffee mug in a greeting nonetheless. He inspects the yard calmly, but the expression on his face is confused and worried. He looks a bit like a lost puppy. If you're out early on Brady Lane, feel free to approach him.

A bit later, a call goes out to the town. The receiver is picked up and there's a moment's hesitation, and a short sigh, followed by the dialing of a number. After nothing happens, he speaks up. The voice is a bit scratchy, and has a Southern accent.]

Ah, does this thing even work....? [He flicks the receiver's button a few times.] Um. Operator?
